Gladwin SANE Ribbon Cutting

In January of 2024, Shelterhouse opened its first Gladwin County SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) medical room.

Sexual assault nursing examinations (SANE exams) are a critical way for survivors of sexual abuse and assault to seek free, confidential, and compassionate medical care. During these exams, survivors are empowered to make their own choices about how they’d like to proceed: collecting evidence to be used in a police report, receiving emergency contraception or STD preventative medications, accessing counseling or support group healing services, or simply speaking with an experienced trauma-informed staff member who can advocate on their behalf.

Opening this SANE suite in Gladwin County increases accessibility to these important healing services throughout our rural communities.
